Západní Tatry
Mezi zajímavou část Tatranské přírodní oblasti patří Západní Tatry a hlavně jejich část nazývaná Roháče. Tyto téměř velehory s průměrnou nadmořskou výškou okolo 2 000 m leží na Slovensku a jak jejich název napovídá, najdeme je na západ od hlavního pásma Vysokých Tater okolo Slovensko-Polských hranic.
Turistický průvodce praví, že Západní Tatry začínají na západě Hutianským sedlem (1185 m n.m.) a na východ zasahují po Ľaliové sedlo, sedlo závory a Kôprovou dolinu, která je odděluje od Vysokých Tater. Z jihu je ohraničuje Podtatranská kotlina a na severu jsou Západní Tatry oddělené Podtatranskou brázdou od Skorušinských vrchů.
V oblasti Západních Tater lze podnikat spoustu zajímavých turistických výprav - jednodenních okružních z obce Zverovka, Zuberec a obcí v Podtatranské kotlině nebo vícedenních s nocováním na hřebenech.
Pár vlastních postřehů
Sám jsem byl v Západních Tatrách třikrát, z toho jednou v zimě a dvakrát v létě. Zimní výprava byla spojena s lyžováním na sjezdovce ve Spáleném žlabu. Odtud jsem ještě s několika lyžaři vyšplhal s lyžemi na hřeben, konkrétně do sedla Parichvost (1802 m n.m.). Ze sedla jsme sjeli zpět na sjezdovku, takže kromě nádherného 2,5 km sjezdu jsme si užili i výhled na okolní hory.
Podruhé jsem se do oblasti Západních Tater dostal v létě se dvěma přáteli. Tehdy jsme se vlakem dopravili do Liptovského Mikuláše a odtud autobusem do vesnice Jalovec. Zde začalo naše putování pěšky Jaloveckou dolinou po žluté značce. V místě, kde se Jalovecká dolina rozdvojuje do dvou rázsoh, jsme odbočili vpravo na modrou značku. Po ní jsme se poměrně prudkým stoupáním dostali na hlavní hřeben - Baníkovské sedlo. Tento den jsme po krátkém odpočinku putovali přes Baníkov (2178 m n.m.), Hrubou kopu, Tri kopy do Smutného sedla. V sedle jsme se pořádně najedli, protože nás čekal docela náročný výstup na Plačlivé (2126 m n.m.) a Ostrý Roháč (2084 m n.m.), kde se používají řetězy pro přidržování rukou. Hřeben je tam dost úzký a nalevo a napravo jsou strmé stěny skal, což přejít s 20 kg krosnami není žádná legrace. V závěru dne jsme sestoupili k Jamnickým plesům, kde jsme pod širákem přenocovali.
Ráno nás probudilo slunce, které svými paprsky nádherně osvítilo okolní hory. Po snídani jsme vyrazili na Volovec (2063 m n.m.) a odtud dál po hřebenu až do Pyšného sedla. V těchto místech končí značená turistická stezka. Protože jsme chtěli jít dál, museli jsme se držet úzké stezky na hřebenu. Soumrak nás zastihnul na Tomanovském sedle a my jsme byli nuceni zde přespat - sešli jsme proto níž k Tomanovským plesům. Ráno nás opět přivítalo slunce.
Nejvíc jsem byl překvapený, když jsem cestou na Temniak (2090 m n.m.) zahlédl kamzíka - stál přede mnou 20 m. Byl to skutečně silný zážitek. Po zdolání Temniaku následovala poměrně snadná cesta po hřebenu až k hoře Kasprov vrch (1985 m n.m.). Kasprov vrch je výletní místo polských turistů, které je přístupné díky sedačkové lanovce. Mimo jiné, jsou zde i lyžařské vleky. Protože se jedná o hraniční pásmo s Polskem, dlouho jsme se zde nezdržovali a sešli po žluté značce do Tiché doliny. Slunce stále pálilo, a tak jsme byli vděčni za osvěžení v ledové vodě Tichého potoka. Naše putování skončilo v Podbanském na konci Tiché doliny. Odtud jsme se dopravili autobusem do Liptovského Mikuláše a dál vlakem zpět domů.
Potřetí jsem byl v Západních Tatrách se zájezdem. Tehdy nás autobus zavezl před Račkovou dolinu a my se vydali po zelené značce na Malý Baranec (1949 m n.m.) a Baranec (2184 m n.m.) - nejvyšší bod tohoto výletu. Dál jsme pokračovali po žluté do Žiarského sedla a odtud po zelené do Žiarské doliny k Žiarské chatě. Příjemné prostředí chaty a chutné občerstvení nás posílilo, vzpružilo, a tak jsme mohli pokračovat dál. Tůru jsme zakončili v závěru Žiarské doliny, kde na nás čekal autobus.
To je vše o mém putování po Západních Tatrách. Příště bych chtěl zdolat nejvyšší vrchol - Bystrou (2248 m n.m.).
