Uganda - Kisoro

V době, kdy Uganda byla britskou kolonií, měla poměrně slušnou silniční síť a především slavnou železnici, spojující keňskou Mombasu s Ugandou. Když Ugandu v roce 1908 navštívil Churchill jako náměstek ministra pro kolonie, napsal: "Uganda je pohádka. Místo po fazolovém stonku šplháte po železnici a nahoře je báječný nový svět."

Uganda byla předmětem sporů mezi koloniálními mocnostmi, neboť byla považována za nejbohatší africkou zemi. Nakonec své nároky nejdůrazněji uplatňovali Angličané a roku 1890 zíslala tzv. helgolandskou smlouvou Ugandu Velká Británie. Uganda se stala součástí Britské východní Afriky a vzkvétala prakticky až do doby, kdy získala nezávislost. Jako řada dalších afrických diktátorů, i Idi Amin bezmála zničil dopravní síť, která mu pravděpodobně znemožňovala absolutní kontrolu nad obyvatelstvem. Proto se nyní kodrcáme po rozbitém pruhu země, který představuje cestu. Ani v dalších dnech to nebude o mnoho lepší, i když na hlavních tazích přece jenom zbývají části asfaltky.

Kisoro. Centrem nevelkého městečka u hranic se Rwandou je park, v němž horský vítr prohání odpadky. Nad Kisorem se sbírají bouřkové mraky a vzduch je neuvěřitelně svěží. I nemocný chlapec se trochu probouzí a na tenkých, nejistých nohou se potácí domů. Hustý horský prales téměř čtyři tisíce vysokých sopek v okolí je domovem stříbrošedých horských goril, které se jinde na světě nevyskytují. Proto se řada vesničanů živí jako horští průvodci. Ostatní pracují na svých políčkách, která obdělávají i na prudkých svazích. Oblíbenou živností je holičství. V malém Kisoru je řada salonů "of beauty" a ti méně majetní provozují holičské a kadeřnické služby v parku. Na stromě zavěšené zrcátko, pod ním židle a místo stropu vysoké nebe. Husté kudrnaté vlasy padají do trávy a mísí se s ostatními odpadky. Romantický obrázek má jen jednu vadu - černí kadeřníci se odmítají nechat vyfotit.
